Makeover Updates

From July 2023 our “West End Makeover Project” work will begin. This project involves opening up space at the west end (back) of the church to create a more flexible area within the body of the church, new storage capacity, and a servery area. (The full details of the plan are available here.)

This page will be regularly updated with a progress report on what is going on…

Our contractors, Universal Stone, are due to start on site on Monday 3rd July and the work is scheduled to take place over 12 weeks. During this time the church building will be closed to the public apart from Sunday services. We are hoping to be able to re-open in early October. (Note: The start was delayed until 18th July, but should still finish in October)

Everything that’s happening is details on the Makeover Update page. Or you can:

Sunday Services

Normal Sunday Services will continue as normal during the work, but the church building will be closed at all other times. The organ will be covered over to protect the pipes during the work, so the piano will be used instead.

Foodbank and Jam

The main body of the church will be closed during the work, but we expect to keep the South Porch open (accessible through the blue gates at the front) as a foodbank drop-off location and also to enable everyone to continue to buy Wendy’s wonderful jams, marmalades and chutney. This will be available most days, we hope.

Some of the pews will be removed as part of this work. If you’d like to take one (in exchange for a donation to church funds) you’ll find all the details here.

Other services

If we need to hold funerals in the church during this time then we will need to give the contractors sufficient notice. It may therefore require a little bit more time to arrange funerals than it normally would.

What’s next?

Once the Makeover is complete we hope that we can move into a season of focusing afresh on growing as a confident people of God and sharing the love of Jesus within the village.

The PCC do still have plans to put solar panels on the roof of St Andrew’s, and we’ll be seeking to progress these plans over the coming months as well.
