The Coat of Arms returns!

After many months at the workshop of Polly Saltmarsh the restored Royal Coat of Arms was restored to its position above the chancel arch this week. It was taken down in May and has been lovingly restored (probably for the first time in about 200 years) with support from the Church Buildings Council, Friends of St Andrew’s and other generous donors.

We’re hugely grateful to Justin Hawkes who masterminded the work in removing the Coat of Arms from the wall, transporting it, and getting it back into place again at the end.

Huge thanks also to Polly’s colleague, Ulla, who did a lot of work on this (and also happens to live in Girton!)

For anyone who is interested you can read Polly’s report into the work that she’s done here.
