Queen's Accession Anniversary
The 6th February this year was the 70th anniversary of our Queen's Accession in 1952. To mark the occasion a group of volunteers rang the church bells for 70 minutes. Local ITV News reported the event by interviewing Dr. Douglas de Lacey who had the original idea. He started the bells chiming first of all with "The Nine Tailors", to remember the death of King George the Sixth, then rang his own sequences. Others followed either by improvising or attempting a prepared sequence of chimes. Each ringer rang for approximately 5 minutes and then Douglas closed the ringing an hour and ten minutes after he started it.
